Tending Life

Justice. Peace. Humility. Courage. Kindness. Inclusion. These only scratch the surface of what many of us want to cultivate in ourselves and to share with others.

Instead of programming "religious education," Gethsemane's approach is more exploration— together wondering about who we are, what we value, and how we're called to tend life together. We gather for such conversations informally over a shared beverage or meal. And sometimes we meet more formally for a discussion group or to attend a workshop.

We create opportunities for our children to explore stories of faith and church traditions, within a framework that values anti-racism, gender equality, economic justice, care of the environment, affirmation of LGBTQ+ folks, trauma-informed practice, and global citizenship.

For each of us, at every age and stage of development, we understand a need to deepen connections and we believe that tending life together can take many forms. Let us know if you have an idea about how to animate the ways we tend life together.

The Expedition

The Expedition is a space for thought-provoking reflections, engaging stories, and surprising perspectives that traverse the depths of faith, the nuances of life, and the dynamics of community. Through essays, personal narratives, and theological insights, we invite you to journey with us as we seek deeper understanding, connection, and purpose.

This platform also features the Rhythms of Humanity podcast, where conversations unfold at the intersection of faith and real life. Through diverse voices and meaningful dialogue, we explore the rhythms that shape us—both individually and collectively.

Engaging Community

There are many ways to be involved in Gethsemane’s life together. On Sundays many collaborate in making music, leading worship, and providing refreshments. During the week there are other possibilities to volunteer at the church and in the community. We love making connections of people’s gifts with community needs, celebrating what Frederick Buechner emphasized when he wrote, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

Talk with anyone in leadership on a Sunday, or use this form to express your interest in having a conversation about how and when you might like to engage.
